Your Google Business Profile is doing more work than your website

For most local Irish businesses, the map listing gets seen far more than the homepage. Most are half finished.

When someone searches "barber in Gorey" or "electrician near me", Google shows the map pack before it shows a single website. That listing, your Google Business Profile, is often the first and only impression you get. It's free, and most businesses have it about 40% complete.

Fill in every single field

Categories, services, service areas, opening hours, bank holiday hours, attributes, description, website link. Google rewards completeness. A fully filled profile consistently outranks a half empty one in the same town, even with fewer reviews.

Photos matter more than you think

Listings with recent, real photos get noticeably more clicks and direction requests. Add your storefront, your team, your work, your interior. Upload a few every month. Stock imagery does nothing here.

Reviews are the ranking lever

Ask every happy customer, every time, with a direct review link sent by text. Reply to all of them, good and bad. A calm, professional reply to a poor review reassures future customers far more than a perfect five star average with no responses.

Use posts and Q&A

Google Posts appear directly in your listing and take two minutes: an offer, a new service, seasonal hours. You can also add your own questions to the Q&A and answer them, which lets you control the information people see first.

Link it properly to your site

Point the website link at a page that matches the search intent, usually your homepage or the relevant service page. Make sure your name, address and phone number match exactly across your site, your listing and any directories. Inconsistency confuses Google and costs you rankings.

Our take

If you do one marketing job this month, complete your Google Business Profile and start asking for reviews. It's free, it takes an afternoon, and for local businesses it usually outperforms anything else you could spend that time on.
